Gentle and Lowly: Christ's Heart for Sinners and Sufferers by Dane Ortlund.

The title of the book brings to the fore Jesus' words in Matthew 11:28-29, "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."  The writer expands on what this means by looking at various passages in the Bible that highlight Jesus' heart for sinners and sufferers. Some of the big takeaways from the book is that God's goodness, His mercy, His justice and His infinite love for us is clearly seen in Jesus. The writer also says that the Christian life is defined by taking off our ideas of who God is (ideas which are mostly negative) and replacing them with God's insistence on who He is that we see in the Bible. The purpose of the book is that we might be reminded of who Jesus is and rest in this knowledge, knowing that as we see our sinfulness that we may know that we have a great Saviour who came into the world for sinners.

Dear Emmie Blue by Lia Louis

This wonderful book about love, friendship, hope and staying afloat in life's tumultuous waves.   A balloon begins a wonderful friendship. I loved everything about Emmie Blue, she's an extremely relatable character who very often puts others above herself and is a hopeless romantic with very little luck when it comes to love. Emmie is introduced as being in love with her best friend Lucas, who has some important news for her. She thought it would finally be requited love after many years of friendship so it is understandable when her reaction to him asking her to be his best wo(man) is shock and some nausea. Her love remains unrequited and her hopes of a relationship with Lucas are crushed. Emmie eventually finds that the person who's been there, the one she overlooked because of Lucas has always gone out of his way for her. Lucas and Emmie met when they both needed each other. They were each other's comfort and my absolute favourite quote from the book is when Lucas te...

My take on Gilmore Girls

Before watching the show that seems to be loved by so many people everywhere in the world, I had no idea what it was or that it even existed. That is until I stumbled on it on Netflix. Thank you Netflix algorithm👏. The relationship that Lorelai has with her daughter Rory is endearing in that it resembles a friendship rather than a parent-child relationship or rather a Mrs. Kim and Lane relationship. It is easy to see why so many people love and hold it dear as much as they do. Throughout the entire show one can see that as much as Rory and Lorelai have this close bond there are times when conflict arises and Lorelai has to be more of a parent than a friend to her daughter. These are times when their shortcomings are highlighted.[Spoiler⚠] It only makes sense that one of their biggest rifts would be over Rory leaving Yale when Lorelai worked as hard as she did to give Rory all the opportunities she never had, it must have felt like a big fat slap in the face for Lorelai. Rory even...
